In preparation to meet the rising needs of a growing community, this treatment plant expansion project was programmed by the Harlingen Water Works System (HWWS) to increase the capacity of the existing plant to 20 million gallons per day. The project scope consisted of the construction of new water treatment concrete tank structures including an aeration basin, four clarifiers and a chlorine contact chamber, and new blower and chlorine buildings to house equipment and chemicals required for the treatment process. The tank structures utilized deep mat foundations and thick retaining walls constructed of high-strength concrete and steel reinforcement.
